I am not a TIG welder, not able to get the stack of dimes and welds are overheated, careful filler metal application is the biggest barrier to becoming successful in TIG, filler metal acts as a heat sink drawing heat out of the weld, this leads to greatly drawing heat both in and out of the weld. GTAW Steel: Welding skills status: (flat position: lay wire/horizontal position: dip wire). The limited welding position skills can effect weld quality/appearance: Welding single welds: better. Welding a whole project tack welded together: rougher. Other welds: Proficient in corner to corner weld joints. Butt-joints: 11 gauge dip wire flat/vertical up (backer block not required) and 16 gauge dip/lay wire horizontal (backer block is required).
